ACHIEVE3000 IS A PROUD PARTNER IN

Day 8

Practicing Using Academic Language

OVERVIEW

So far, Dr. Fisher has introduced you to many different strategies for facilitating collaborative conversations in your classroom.

On Day 8, Dr. Fisher reviews the different strategies covered so far and shares how talking with a partner allows students to clarify their thinking and express themselves using academic language.

ASSIGNMENT

CLASSROOM TASK: PRACTICE A STRATEGY

Practice a strategy you’ve been using with your students to get them talking to each other using academic language. You can do a ReQuest, Think-Pair-Share, or a variation on that, or any other strategy we’ve explored thus far.

Watch how your students respond. Reflect on how they respond to having increased time to talk to each other.
