Lakewood, NJ, (June 24, 2019) – Achieve3000®, the leader in differentiated instruction, today released details about its forthcoming collection of original, differentiated fiction – the first such collection of its kind. Designed for K-8 students, each fictional story is precision differentiated and contains five to seven engaging “episodes” to inspire and spark a joy of reading in all students.
Studies show that reading fiction is an effective method of improving vocabulary and language skills while boosting emotional intelligence and social skills.
“Today we are excited to announce the world’s first differentiated original fiction, published weekly alongside our science, social studies and current events nonfiction articles,” said Stuart Udell, CEO of Achieve3000. “Fiction engages students and accelerates literacy growth using different reading comprehension skills. With our best-in-class nonfiction and the world’s first differentiated original fiction, Achieve3000 is dedicated to creating innovative opportunities for educators to transform literacy for every student.”
There are three fiction collections in total, tailored to grades K-2, 3-5 and 6-8. Each reading passage is accompanied by an embedded assessment to help build the skills necessary to succeed on state exams and has a Spanish translation option. Teacher support materials include recommended active learning experiences to teach the fundamentals of fiction, and vocabulary-building activities.
“Teaching fiction is essential because it helps to expand student horizons, and is often a requirement in literacy instruction,” said Danielle Murray, literacy coordinator at Gilbert Spruance School in Philadelphia. “This new offering from Achieve3000 is exciting because it provides teachers with trusted content materials, while keeping students engaged and motivated in their reading and progress.”
Colorful illustrations and other text features accompany each story to engage students and boost reading comprehension. Each week’s episode ends with a cliffhanger as a way to entice students to come back the following week to read the next episode.
The fiction collection will be rolled out to Achieve3000 customers this fall. Learn more at https://ww2.achieve3000.com/differentiatedfiction or visit Achieve3000 at ISTE booth 2207.
