On Day 18, Dr. Fisher invites you to observe a teacher as he implements Station Teaching with his students. The teacher discusses the stations with the students.
Some of the stations have independent tasks while others include collaborative activities. The teacher meets with a small group of students to provide needs-based instruction.
CLASSROOM TASK: OBSERVE AND ANALYZE
Analyze what you saw in the video. What did you notice about the students and their ability to work together? What did you notice about the teacher and his time with a small group of students? Finalize your plans for Station Teaching in your classroom.Plan the stations to use with your students. What are familiar tasks and activities that your students can engage in? You can plan some stations where the activities are independent tasks, and others that include collaborative tasks.
Reflect on your thoughts about implementing Station Teaching in your classroom. Do you have any concerns?
This journal can be used to reflect on what you have learned as you develop strategies for engaging your students in collaborative conversations.
We don’t strive to produce students who are teacher-dependent, but rather students who can take the knowledge and skills they have developed and apply that to a wide range of problems and situations.
