Leveraging Student and Community Voice as Content for Curriculum: A Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Discussion

May. 26, 2021 • Kevin Baird, NABU, Oklahoma City Public Schools

Please join us for this series of timely conversations we are producing with our learning partners and other important educational organizations. Kevin Baird, Chairman at the non-profit Center for College and Career Readiness, moderates this next discussion with Oklahoma City Public Schools focused on their Project Voice initiative. Now adopted as part of Oklahoma’s official state historical documents, Project Voice brings forth visions of inclusion, culture, and empathy by providing students with the opportunity to bring voice to their personal immigration stories.

We will also hear from a U.N. Partner organization, NABU, which works globally to develop community authorship and illustration of authentic stories as literary text especially for early readers. NABU’s workshop approach provides a method of leveraging local community stories as core content for literary texts.
